look at this

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/gra ... -a-13.html

When I clicked on tha website, i was amazed to see that everyone on that forum were students applying either to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, UCB, Stanford, MIT U penn and other. What the hell is wrong in Biology? Everyone goes to TOP Universities only, They never apply to any safety schools.

They are already accepted to so many places and are called for interviews. I do not know why Physics departments are so slow. Biology dept receives way more applicants than Physics dept does. Inspite of that they have early decisions, The stipend is like $25,000 minimum.

yeah there is way more funding in biology for larger stipends. About the early decisions, I remember seeing that the deadlines for the biology programs were a lot earlier than the deadlines for physics, probably because it is such a popular subject.

most of the Biology depts have deadline in as early as Dec 1. We also have Universities that have deadlines like Dec 7, and Dec 15.
Conclusion:
Physics profs are slacker

MIT gives 27000/year

Stanford gives up to 7800 per quarter. I am not sure how the quarter system works, but if there are 4 quarters in a year, then that comes out to 31200.

USC gives $25,000 + tuition waiver, according to the ad they posted at my university.
