UCSB Materials Received?

Post by fermiboy » Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:56 pm

Does anyone out there understand the UCSB "check status" button? I can't tell if they have received my materials or not. They signed for them on Wednesday, but it doesn't appear like they have updated the app. Does anyone out there have a UCSB app submitted where it shows that your materials have been submitted? What does it the screen look like? Next to every item, mine says

(not needed, not verified, or not yet received)

Mine says the same thing. I am not 100% sure if my materials ever made it. I sent everything via express mail last week, but the online status still just says arrived at unit. But, I finally talked to someone who knows something this morning, and he said that it was delivered last week, it's just that there are so many applications coming in that they weren't able to update the status of all of them. So, it appears it was delivered last week, but my application still the exact same thing as yours. It says that it does have my GRE scores. They say on the page that it may take time for the status to update due to the busy holiday season.

I hope they have our stuff, and they're just being slow. I sent mine via FedEx 2day, and I have a record of someone in the dept. signing for it.

I talked to someone at the post office there today, and she told me that they received over a hundred express mail packages all going to UCSB on thursday, friday, and saturday; however, the status update was screwed up by the person doing the deliveries, so basically none of the packages were ever shown as delivered. She 'assured' me that mine had been delivered on Friday by 3 PM as was guaranteed when I sent it....

My status page still says "(not needed, not verified, or not yet received)" for everything though, except for GRE scores, which they received awhile ago.

I sent an email to them today to ask whether they actually got my package on Friday as USPS claims.... The auto-response I got said that it could take up to a week for them to update the online status pages to reflect everything they've received, so I'd be patient for a few more days.

I emailed them last week about the deadline and was told that since it was on a Saturday, materials received by Monday December 15 would be on time.

I sent my application by priority mail last Wednesday... hopefully it got there in time. (I lost the delivery confirmation slip but it sounds like that wouldn't help anyways!)

No updates to the application page yet, of course.

Mine says the same thing. I've been checking (twice a day  ), but I don't really expect them to have it all updatef until after the christmas break (and same for the rest of my applications).

I'll post to this thread when I see that they officially have my materials. If any of you wish, please do the same.

Here is the text of an email I got from UCSB today:

I am sure you understand that you are one of approximately five hundred
applicants, and as such we are currently receiving an extraordinary amount
of mail.

If your tracking service says that the materials have been received, then
they are probably in our office being processed. At this point it may take
us several days to a few weeks to process all of the paperwork. We thank you
for your patience. Please continue to check the status of your application
materials online.

If you have sent GRE/TOEFL scores, please be sure to update them to your
application. For information on how to do this please visit:
http://www.physics.ucsb.edu/education/g ... apps.htm#u
pdategre

Best of luck!

so it sounds like it might be awhile before anything shows up online.

My stuff is in!!

So I just cheked my status and it has updated all of my materials. It says it was received Dec. 13 (just like USPS had said)

What sucks is that I talked to ETS and they messed up my record, so they have my general and subject scores in different files. Thus UCSB hasn't received my general score yet

Mine's still out. By any chance, is your last name very early in the alphabet? If not, they are probably just doing them one at a time and it could still be quite a while before they are all up to date.

How do you check the status of your apps online?

Did you call the grad school directly and ask them if they have your materials?

Several of the online app systems claim you can check for your supporting documents online but I havnen't found where to do this at... could anyone tell me?

Just go back to the same page you used to log in to your application. Once you log into your application, there will be a link to "track status" or "check status". For example, with embark, it is at the bottom of the main summary page when you log into your application. Others will have a link when you log in. You'll see "log in to begin or continue your application" and another link to "log in and check the status of a submitted application"

I checked the embark status on a couple of my apps (Harvard, Cornell) and it doesn't say that my transcript or GRE's are in, is that the case for everyone, and they just aren't updating? or should I resend?

@grae

yeah, my last name starts with CA, so that might be why they processed my stuff already...

geomar, it's the same for everywhere else as for UCSB. They have hundreds of applications and it will take a fair amount of time for them to go through them all and update everyones status.

That's what I figured. I just think its a bit strange, since my transcripts and GRE scores were in about 3 weeks before the deadline and they aren't showing up - I suppose the reason is that I submitted my online application near/on the deadline. Jeez, its been only 4 days and I want an answer back already!

thanks grae313, I would never have found it otherwise...

geomar, yeah my harvard app doesn't say anything about my scores or transcripts either.

Geomar,

Cornell says my stuff is in, and it came up like 1 or 2 days after I applied. You might want to check on that with them.

My Cornell page doesn't say squat. I think it's a crapshoot.

my Cornell page says everything is in!
Grae, I think you might want to call them and make sure about your status, coz everyone I have talked to so far who have applied to Cornell say that they have their status "complete"!

Hm... :? Thanks for the info, RG. I think I'll wait until Monday--I'll give them a week to get through all the apps before I start bugging them...

I have a question for all those who applied to UCSB. Was the location and weather a big factor in deciding to apply?

As for me, the weather was the initial factor that made me interested, and then I looked at their program to see if it could possibly fit my not-very-well-defined interests. I am just really sick of the really hot summers and really cold winters that we get where I am currently at.

The weather/location was definitely a big factor for me. I love Santa Barbara!

The location mattered to me, in as so far as it was on the West coast.

The nice location in Santa Barbara and it being on the beach were just "icing on the cake."

Did you send your transcripts/LORs/SOP in one envelope? Mine are all separate, maybe that's why it's taking longer.

Anyone still have applications that list unreceived materials? I figured everyone is off for the holidays until January and they aren't updating right now, but it's still bugging me! UCSB and Cornell still list me as having an incomplete application. :(

my UCSB page was just updated today, actually. prior to today everything was listed as "not needed, not verified, or not yet received", but this afternoon, everything was updated to show that it had been received on dec. 13. i wouldn't worry about it just yet, give them at least until after new year's, since they're obviously still processing everyone's applications.

EDIT: I checked back and UCSB updated my file and listed my materials as being received Dec 15th.
