Failing current year and effect on PhD admission

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Failing current year and effect on PhD admission

Post by Izaac » Wed Apr 20, 2016 3:29 pm

Hello there,

This might just be the stress of final exams and all, but I'd like to evaluate my worst-case scenario.
I already hold both a BSc and master degree, and am currently (foolishly) pursuing a second master degree. This year I was accepted for a PhD degree at another (US) institution, but I have doubts about being able to graduate from this second master. Would the university which accepted me invalidate my application should I fail my exams this year, or would they consider it okay since anyway I got a previous master degree? I asked by mail the graduate office over there but haven't received any reply as yet.

Thanks!
