Bad first year

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Bad first year

Post by Colorado155 » Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:24 pm

Hi,
In my first year, I did badly in a few classes (Cs and D's). In one of my classes, I have an incomplete grade. Is it favourable to repeat the courses I did badly in or to just go on?

Thanks

Are these classes for your major? If so, I would repeat. Especially if you have plans for graduate school or professional school or something.

^ this, but if your grades show a strong upward trend the school will take that as a positive anyway.

I chose not to address a D in real analysis 2, taken in my second undergraduate semester. All I would have had to say about why my real analysis 2 grade sucked would have sounded like I was making excuses (no discrete math, started with real analysis 1 in my first semester, right off the bat). However, it's my only grade below a B-.
