INTERNATIONALS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T APPLY FOR HEP-TH

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

INTERNATIONALS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T APPLY FOR HEP-TH

..unprepared. International applicants to the US, especially to hep-th, have a tough time. For your safety and comfort I have compiled a reference list of past applicant profiles so you can compare and contrast, read and repudiate, glance and glower.

Babazula
Bosonic
Maxos

Spinff
Landau007
Nowhereguy
Jackadsa
Mfedderke
Four Minus Epsilon

Warner.la.bros
Buzz.aldrin
Scotthew
Nimaajbphs

Margse

Shangtsail
Asimov
Quezalcoatl
Cedricyu803

There was a hep-th applicant from abroad
With good grades and LoRs across board
He worried not a jot
"Safety schools? I need not"
So he won the No Offers award.

Same goes for cosmology theory as well, apparently...

Are there any specific ways for international applicants to increase their chances (especially things that don't apply to domestic applicants)?
By the way, it is interesting that a huge fraction of internationals studied at Cambridge.

Note: the profiles at PhysicsGRE.com do not come anywhere close to being a representative sample of actual applicants (international or not!).

But it is best to apply to a broad range of schools for HEP-TH/cosmo, even if you're domestic.

Here's a sampling of international would-be cosmologists (regardless of observational or theoretical), in chronological order:

Mindaugas (No Offers Award winner)
Hypernova
Valkyrie
Ck85
Mataka
Blackcat007
Bhavin
Radulhatta
Lapen
Satyad18
Cryingsun
Spoiledscientist
Zjudracula
Mrbuttons
Marcohang1
Carpediem
Avocado_number
Ale87
Wololo
Photomagnetic
Omidsameie
Johnivan
Rosicky7
Spacebug
Collectedsoul

Good luck cosmologists this year around...
