GOOD LUCK on the April 5th, 2014 PGRE

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

GOOD LUCK on the April 5th, 2014 PGRE

Post by tweetie_brid » Fri Mar 21, 2014 9:45 pm

I started my serious prep in January,

For all it is worth I relied on:

1) 5 released past exams
2) Conquering the Physics gre book on Amazon.

I will be happy with a 700 thats all I need to get into my want school.

Good luck indeed!

The book you used is quite good. I used it too to quickly refresh my undergraduate knowledge (after more than 7 year ^_^). I would suggest that you do not take the score you get on the books' example tests very seriously. You can probably tell that they are much harder in comparison to the official tests.

Those are the only resources that I used and I got a 740. Good luck!

"Arbitrary" is absolutely correct. The tests in the prep book are much harder than the real test. Actually, on one of the practice tests, I did as bad as I did good on the real test (bottom x% on practice test; top x% real test). I hesitate to say this because perhaps if you're a little scared it will make you study more (like it did for me!) however, don't get down on yourself because of those practice tests; they are quite challenging. Good luck!!
