easiest Phd Physics programs to get into

Post by delsub » Wed Jan 15, 2014 10:48 pm

hi

I wanted to get into Phd program from January, but plan did not work out. Now I am applying for Fall.

I HAVE to get admission SOMEWHERE. for observational astronomy

So I am looking for dead easy safety schools - any adventurous applying I will do will be for mid ranked colleges in the north - east coast.

GPA - 3.3 in masters from Texas A & M
GRE = V.Q.Phys = 620. 800. 640
good thesis in Observational Astro.

can you please recommend some dead easy colleges anywhere in usa, esp in east coast.

Please experts help me - i need to get in somewhere - else my physics career is over !!

Would you advise that i dont ask for astronomy and instead indicate something (with less strict criteria) like planetary or atmospheric physics instead?

Help !!

look for anywhere with year-round rolling admission--they don't do the compare/contrast/shoot-for-an-entering-class thing, so it's a bit easier to get in. The only places I know of are UC Riverside (partially rolling, they had a fellowship deadline that passed) and UC Merced, but they're on the west coast and are state schools, which means they might not take an international student. I'm sure there are more, though.

tufts is a weird one.
one of my friends applied there last year. he got accepted eventually for experimental cosmology.
there are only 2 prof were working on that. somehow graduate admissions didnt know that and my friend got a rejection at first.
then he called them they said sorry and made an offering.
weird weird.

Most of the large state schools in the midwest where nobody wants to live. There are only a few exceptions to that rule. :P

thanks Riley for the info - I shall try a few. you mean like Idaho?? Oregon?

Here is what I am aiming for -

Njit, Rochester inst tech, Renseller. Polytechnic. Inst., Cuny <== these are all east coast - is there any here i have no chance in. cuny already applied.

U Toledo, U Ark fayetteville, Tulane, university southern Mississippi <=== these are the easiest I found - can you please add some names - WPU? Hampton?

suggestions for "super safety schools" welcome !!

Those are more western schools. I mean like Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, etc.
