Now that I have my Oct scores... suggestions

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

HEy when did you get your OCT score? Are you talking about the past year or this past OCT test?

Your stats look great but there's no harm in applying to one extra-safe safety school, IMO.

(IMO - in my opinion)

ummm, ucsb is ranked 10th in the country by us news and world report for physics, and 6th for condensed matter physics. They are a tiny department and admit a handful of students each year. Your schools on your list cover rankings 1-15 pretty well, you might grab something from the 15-25 ranks for your backup.

Here's #'s 1-30 from 2006 us news and world report rankings. Pick a few that sounds good, visit their websites and look for some interesting research projects. Maryland has a big and diverse department.
