How many schools will you have visited by April 15?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

To all prospective students, how many schools will you visit? I'm guessing most people will decide between 3 to 5 schools.

I visited 3 Canadian schools in one trip when applying for MSc programs and I visited 3 US schools in the last month for PhD programs (2 schools were in one trip, the last school was within driving distance). Although I was lucky enough to be invited to more the 3 open houses, I decided that visiting more than 3 schools would take too much time out of my MSc work! Also, I could cleanly narrow down my choices to 3 very close programs and chose to visit them!

So 3 turned out to be a good number for me!
