Which is better?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Which is better?

Hello all, I need an advice about my admission. I'm an international applicant and I did well on the PGRE (980). I dont have strong recommendations though. The question is should I get recommendation from a professor in my department which hardly knows me (and will probably be weak) or should I ask a friend which is now doing post-doc in NYU, and considered to be strong?

I'd go with the postdoc. Some of the smartest people I know are postdocs.
