Different institutions for general/subject

Post by iatheia » Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:42 am

I put different institutions for the General and the Physics test, though, I did ask for both of the scores to be sent out. But because they didn't have the results for them quite at the same time, and have sent out General results about two weeks prior the Physics results becoming available, I am curious. Will they sent them to schools listed for the General test, or would I need to order additional scores?

Can't you wait until you are technically accepted before sending official scores? A number of departments I've seen say that unofficial score report is fine for screening purposes.

I was not aware that such a thing was possible... From some of the posts on these forms I've read that the departments urge you to submit all the scores prior to the deadline.

They do, but for most an unofficial score report, like a copy of the one sent to you from ETS or a copy of your online score report usually suffices. Check with the department, but a lot of them do allow you to send unofficial scores, and then submit official reports as a formality of acceptance.

Does an estimated GRE General score (right after taking the computerized version) count?

Doubtful. There is too big of a range in their estimates. They are primarily for yourself.
When did you take the exam?

I'm planning to take it on December 10. Berkeley EPS (Dec 21 due date) is fine if I don't report it by the time I submit - not sure about other schools

That... was an incredibly silly thing to do. The results _should_ be out before December's end, but still. Why did you register so late when you knew you are going to be applying to grad schools this year?
At least say that you already took pgre.

Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. Almost every application I submitted had an option to either submit scores or submit a date in which I planned on taking the test--as long as they have the scores by February, there's no problem.

wow - so if I seriously ****ed up my GREs, I could actually retake my GREs in 6 weeks and still get my scores in?

No, it takes at least a month for scores to be reported after you take them.

Why does it take so long if scores are reported back in 10-15 days?

Can you elaborate on most? Are you sure you're not confusing GREs with transcripts? For example, of all my schools a number of them accept unofficial transcript scans, but every one of them requires an official GRE report.

I'm very much hoping that you're right. I took the PGRE in November, it's cutting close.
