And have you ever received a friend request from them?

I'm just curious.

For people I've met I have received a friend request, which I accepted. I don't understand why you'd facebook friend someone you've never met.

Half of them are James Bond from the various Physics & Astronomy Department to which you are applying. Just checking your striped Goggles and the Traits and your awesome cover songs and the other things such as Physics.

Do busy physics professors really find time to have facebook account and then continue to run it in parallel with their research, sounds interesting.?
Ask admissionprof S/He really doesn't have any..
So don't be so curious regarding their facebook, orkut, myspace account.

I have on personal witness knowledge that physics professors post on their wall during the break in lab classes.

Yeah on their wall I mean Brick Wall of the room not the Facebook Wall.

LOL that is quite funny.

Yes, many professors (*especially* the associate ones) have gotten facebook. I've browsed through some of their profiles. Gordon Watts (the guy who wrote Life as a Physicist) practically stopped updating his blog ever since he found Facebook. :p (his wall is actually pretty funny - I think it's open to the public)

I'm facebook friends with a number of my professors from undergrad, and of course 40 or 50 Cornell grad students/postdocs. There are some professors here with facebook accounts but I don't have any of them as friends.

Most of my physics cohorts are friends of mine on facebook, where we tend to post things other than physics every now and then. I think there's some fear that facebook is inappropriate because of the possibility it might lead to sexual contact between instructors and students. This doesn't apply to me because I'm in second childhood.

One of my classmates adds every one of his students that he possibly can on facebook. Once the semester is over, they are all fair (but not all fair) game.

As an undergraduate, I have friended many grad students and a few professors. To my knowledge, not too many professors at my university have Facebook.

Normally this would be true, but in your case the students 'get' to have sex with you. In this instance, it's more accurate to view it as a privilege.
