Mid-year Grades for graduate school admission!

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Mid-year Grades for graduate school admission!

Post by entanglement » Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:01 pm

Hi Folks,
I was wondering whether graduate schools make decision W/W.O mid-year grades :!:
A good chunk of grad school have applications due by Dec 15, and most of us won't have our fall semester's grades by then. Considering the fact that we have to send our official transcript by now, which means without our fall semester grades, they are not too concerned about my fall semester. Does that imply that they make decisions solely based on our existing grades/resume? Also, I couldn't find anywhere in the application where they mentioned that we have to update our application again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The decisions are made based on your most recent transcript, and if the deadline is before grades are out, they make their decisions without these grades. If you end up doing well, you are free to send an updated transcript later on as the committee is usually still deliberating, but that is up to you. You'll be required to submit your final transcript showing your degree posted after you graduate.
