Could someone help me with selecting schools strong in optics?
My profile:
Grades: Good: A
GREs: PGRE: 870
General GRE: 1340
Research: Nil
Recommendations: Good
This is my shortlist so far:
Rochester
Arizona
Colorado-Boulder
Maryand
I am not looking at top schools, since my scores on the GREs are not that high. I also have no research experience.
Could anyone suggest some more schools I could apply to?
Great optics programs?

Re: Great optics programs?
I am an international student. Hence I am not in possession of too much information about the universities. Is it harder to be accepted to these places if I am applying to the optics departments? Is it advisable to apply stating that I am unsure what area to pursue, and once there, to approach the specific professors? Please help me

Optics is not a difficult research area to get into from the supply and demand perspective.
Make sure you take a look at all the schools listed here.

Re: Great optics programs?
Thanks for the tips. I did do the usual google search/visit websites of schools kind of things.
One more question: based on my profile, would you say that the schools I am considering are schools I am likely to be selected at? I am asking because I have seen many international students profiles on this forum, who have good grades and GREs and did not get into most of the places they have applied to. Since Rochester and Arizona are top in optics, with my profile, what would my chances (roughly) be?
Thanks again!

No one can give you a better idea than you can get yourself by looking at the profiles threads. Keep in mind that you can select for just the international applicants or just the applicants applying to your schools of interest using your browser's find text feature and view many relevant profiles quickly. I don't think anything on your list is out of reach, just make sure you apply to some super safety schools.
