Unless you have some great research or some excellent letters I think you're looking outside of the US top 50 with those scores as an international.

Yes obviously outside of the us top 50. Need your important suggestion. Which schools do you suggest?
Actually its not my score.I am asking on behalf of another guy. he is upset after getting pgre score. I am scared to call ets for my pgre score. I will apply next year. So no hurry. Waiting for the update in my gre account.

Most of us aren't very familiar with schools outside the top 50. Choosing where to apply is a difficult and important decision that requires a lot of research and effort from the individual. No one can do this for you (or your friend). Your friend should start with a list of the top 100 physics programs, cross of programs that are clearly out of reach, and programs that are undesirable to your friend's personal tastes (location, size, etc). Then he needs to start looking through the websites of each of these programs and try to find some that have decent research in his area of interest, either one really excellent research group matching his interests or several good research group matches. Once that is done, feel free to ask our opinions on that list.

While it doesn't list every program in the country, http://www.gradschoolshopper.com/ is still a very useful resource.

Thanks for your replies.
Re: Where to apply for hep with these scores?
I have landed in a similar situation with pgre in 600s and gre in 1100s.. I kinda screwed up the timing of the tests with a fifteen day gap between the two tets. IF any of the previous members of the forum who got similar scores and did get into some grad programs, I hope post some opinions and suggestions.. Kindly do this .. should help quite a few .. Thanks

Just a suggestion I will through out there is Syracuse University.
Your friend should look closely at programs. Some schools in that range aren't going to have any HEP.(Syracuse, however does have a bunch of faculty in HEP)

If you're interested in HEP but aren't sure you can get into the top programs, one strategy to consider is start by looking at some of the DOE National Labs that do research you find interesting (the obvious first thought being Fermilab), and then look at schools in the area which may not be top 50 but likely have many faculty who work and/or collaborate at the nearby lab.

My score is same to you in PGRE. I had my 3rd yr final exm. If i get time i will try again. Now started my 4th yr. Some people went to grad school with this type of scores. See the "result" page. I think a good research background also helps a lot.kedar wrote:I have landed in a similar situation with pgre in 600s and gre in 1100s..
