Impending Doom

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

I also sense impending doom, I keep telling myself its paranoia and not intuition.

Yes, so I was here last year at this time when there was much fretting, doom, and gloom. Most of it was for naught.

Yes, I know, I've heard it here before that I need to wait until I get accepted and don't panic but from my perspective it feels terrible.

This hopefully will cheer up other people although for me it's an almost complete and total disaster. I got rejected from U Oregon today. I called UC Davis and am wait listed there in HEP with a rating too low for admittance, and was not admitted for the first wave of 1. UCSC, 2. UCI, or 3. JHU. I did not ask Hawaii for financial aid as I figured if everyone except U. Hawaii - hopefully a real safety for me - should not accept me I should try and create a real real safety for myself. I now have U Mass - for which I believe the first wave has now gone out though I'm not quite sure, and Purdue, which for me is a real reach to hear from, and with my luck I'll be rejected from Hawaii. As I love physics I will most likely just get a 2nd masters from a decent school this time, and by the time I'm 35 I'll have a PhD. Hey I'm already bald - there are far worse scenarios. Have a great weekend :)
