Contacting Professors at Grad Schools

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Contacting Professors at Grad Schools

Post by evilclaw2321 » Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:08 pm

So I've heard of some people looking at the faculty of where they're applying and finding someone and emailing (or mailing) them to introduce themselves as an applicant, ask about research, basically get your name heard. I've heard professors say though that they usually just ignore these emails. Have any of you done this? Would it be recommended? I'm trying to think of anything I can to help my chances.
