What to do when no word/page limit for SOP is mentioned?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Hey guys,

What are you doing when there is no word or page limit for the SOP is mentioned in the application or the department website?
I have two versions of SOP - one is about a page long (around 600 words) and another one is about 1.75 pages (around 1000 words), which one shall I use when no word or page limit is mentioned?

Which one do you think best describes your intentions and interests? If you could do it in 600 words, then you might get points for being succinct. If you need the full 1000, why not just send that one in?
