Where did we all decide to go?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

I have to decide between Arizona and Oregon. Maybe I should just flip a coin?

I have a friend who plans on going to Oregon, and he's pretty smart.

Arizona is dry and hot and gross and McCainy.

I've got to decide between UMass and UF. They're playing each other in the semi-finals of the NIT, so I think I'm gonna leave this one up to the gods. Better than flipping a coin, my future could be determined by a buzzer beater.

In all seriousness, Florida's the place for me.

I'm going to Princeton's plasma physics program. I gotta stop sleeping 10 hours per day and get my ass in gear and catch up on some physics...

Very true, but they also have a lot of cool physics. I just got done with visiting weekend and I was very impressed by the U. of Arizona. In addition to the physics department, they also have an astronomy department, a planetary sciences department, and an entire college of optics. You are free to work with anyone in any of these departments, as well as chemistry, math, bio, etc. I was blown away by the breadth of their research programs.

I don't know if they really expected us to get anything done anyway. All of my professors have actually been really understanding about my senioritis.

Students applying to grad school should just take a full-time credit load of "stressing about grad school" for their last semester.

Ditto. I mentioned the places I'm flying to and they said, "well... I don't want you turning in all of the assignments the last week of class, but if you need a little more time, that's OK."

I am having a *** hard time finding an apt near Madison. Every time I call a place they say that it is already been booked.
Is there anybody on this forum looking for an apt near Madison area? Can we be in touch? I am planning on moving there this summer(June 1)

:D

I am a normal student as any other students. I read this article and I did what I think I had better do, so I got it.

http://www.physlink.com/Education/grad_how2.cfm

http://www.cs.indiana.edu/mit.research.how.to.html

Now I must complete the old project and prepare for Prelims exam. I will be back in August.

Cheers. :D

I thank "Him" for the good webpage links and the priceless posts he's blessed us with. I wish garden the best of luck in graduate school. I'll eagerly await his return in August, and I'll be right back here to watch it unfold.
will wrote:I like how we all make fun of garden's English when it's probably better than more than a few regular posters', including RG's.
Nah we're not making fun of him. We're just getting a harmless laugh out of some awkwardly worded posts. I do get the impression that he realizes we consider him a god. I think he likes it. Kindof like that "bedroom experiment" SOP admissionprof told us about.

The difference between garden and RG is that garden's grammar errors are his deliberate attempts to hide several different meanings simultaneously behind one set of words, while RG's are full of unrestrained humor and fun. :D
twistor wrote:There is no time to argue about English for we must prepare for the Leader's second coming (in August)!
Yeah I can't wait to see him back. That will be a spectacular event. All of this year's graduating class, most of which would otherwise leave the forum permanently, will return in August to witness garden's resurrection. While next year's class is experiencing hypertension and preparing for the October GRE, one day, somehow, we'll find a garden post within a discussion of the 0177 practice test.

I wish garden at least would stick around until April 15th to fight multigoal.
