The 800 Club
The 800 Club
Seeing as how the 700s and the 900s got their club, I propose a new club for people in the 800s because apparently we are not good enough for either of the previous. Sticking to the theme of high GRE rejections and low GRE acceptances, this is for ppl in the 800s with at least 1 acceptance AND 1 rejection.
Re: The 800 Club
Yes, our mediocrity proves how special we are!
Re: The 800 Club
Finally a club I qualify for!
Re: The 800 Club
I'm in the same boat as 400nm. Can I still join?!? I'll be sure to get a rejection soon. I need to get some already because this hope is killing me.
Re: The 800 Club
Finally... a place where I belong!
Re: The 800 Club
Same as some people in above. No official rejection, but I hope to hear rejection from Harvard ASAP so that I can plan my visit to open houses as well as collaboration meetings...
Re: The 800 Club
I suppose one cannot really fault people for not getting rejections, although there really is no reward for bing in this club.

Re: The 800 Club
What are you talking about no reward? What about all the crazy 800 club drug parties?
Re: The 800 Club
At least you got some acceptances first 400nm before your rejection. So are you going to CalTech (it looks like they finally got around to making up their minds about the interviewees)?
Re: The 800 Club
Six places is not so bad. That was my number too. So where do you want to go?
Re: The 800 Club
Harvard and Caltech were my first choices and counting Caltech's interview as a positive response, they were also my first two responses which made my Princeton and MIT rejections less stressing. I flip flopped for a bit two weeks ago but I have definately decided now that I am going to Harvard.
Re: The 800 Club
A similar thing happened to me. A prof has invited me to revisit, and offered to pay for the visit.
Re: The 800 Club
I would most likely visit though that depends on whether I can fit it into my schedule. What happened was: this prof --a potential research advisor-- was ill during my original visit and cud not meet me. So, she has invited me ("as an additional visit for the program" to meet her and her students, and to show me around her lab. So, my second visit will be quite well-defined.
I personally think it is a good sign when the prof "courts" a student in this way...the prof must really be interested in the student as a potential member of his/her group, and is willing to put his/her best put forward to make it happen.
I will post my stats after I have joined a program. However, I will add a little something for now.

Re: The 800 Club
Wow a second visit to Pasadena, you can't go wrong with that. Was the prof who called you also the prof who was taking the students 3-4 at a time, becuase it would make sense if he particularly wanted you in his group to give you some more one on one time. Did he call you out of the blue, or maybe he read the forum and figured out who you were and that you had said 95% not caltech?
Re: The 800 Club
Finally I have a club. Rejected from Maryland and was admitted to Kansas State.
Re: The 800 Club
Rejected from UCLA and Cornell... Sorry I couldn't be perfect! :D:D:D
