from engineering to astronomy/astrophysics

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

from engineering to astronomy/astrophysics

Post by tintin » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:01 pm

I've a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and i've been working as a software engineer, however i am very keen on doing my masters + PHD in Astronomy/Astrophysics next fall.

I've scored 1500 on the GRE general(800 in quantitative) and I'm giving the subject GRE this october.

I have two questions:
1) considering that my undergrad was in mechanical engineering, what can i do to strengthen my application?
2) what colleges should i think of applying to? Are Columbia, Cornell, John Hopkins, Rutgers practically infeasible?

Appreciate your help!!
