Final thoughts on this application season?

I was thinking we can share our final thoughts (or data if anyone has any) about this application season. Do you think this season had an especially large/qualified applicant pool? For example, Berkeley had a 17% increase in applicants from last year. Is thus school an anomaly or is this a result of more physics undergraduates and a greater push for graduate school attendance? I'm interested to hear others' opinions.
