Confusion over arranging flights

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Confusion over arranging flights

Post by count » Tue Feb 09, 2016 2:40 pm

I'm planning on visiting a school for astronomy, and I've been emailing the person in charge of this. I suggested flights which were cheap and worked great with my schedule. Instead, they got similar flights on another airline (Delta), but is much more expensive.

I'm really confused. Should I just go with it? It's not my money, it's theirs. I would have thought they wanted to save money.

I think some universities might have discounted rates on certain airlines.

As the other person said, they might have a bulk discount rate.

Also, some funding sources have restrictions on which airlines to use.

Or, maybe they just wanted to ensure that you get good treatment and didn't want you to use either a budget airline or an airline that is often late.

Or, they wanted you to arrive at certain times for other scheduling purposes!
