Connections versus GPA

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Connections versus GPA

Post by CAD111 » Sat Jan 10, 2015 7:31 pm

I visited a prof and he told me he'd be very happy to have me in his group. I think it was b/c that my current advisor made some personal recommendation and my research interest matches his almost perfectly, I understand most of his papers and had a nice talk. However my GPA isn't stellar, it's probably a 3.4-3.5 or 80% from a very good canadian university. My 4th year gpa is pretty high (89%) with two 95+ in Quantum3 and E&M3 with a full course load and 4 of them are 4th year physics courses. How will this affect my chances? Do profs really care about students grades a lot?
