Medical Physics Application Process 2012/2013

Hello guys!

I noticed several students chatted about their Medical Physics graduate application status back in 2011 and thought it maybe helpful if I started a new post for this year. I just recently submitted all of my applications and was wondering if anyone has heard back from schools. If so, what did they say and when did they tell you?

Also, I was wondering from someone who had been accepted into Duke, UCLA or UT-Houston (or any other school that has an interviewing process)--- How was the interview process? What did they ask you?

Thanks in advance,

Julia

So, I just got an email today (1/17/13) from UTexas at Houston! I have an interview with them! Anyone been through the interviewing process at Texas? What is it like? What should I expect?

Thanks!

I got an email from UCLA a few days ago inviting me to go to their Candidates' Day (including an interview) at their expense.

I haven't heard from UT Houston so I guess that's not looking good if you already got your email. Are they flying you there for a visit to interview?

I'm also interested if anyone can give us some insight on the interview process for these schools. Sorry I can't help there!

CONGRATS quesakilla!! That is fantastic news! After rethinking about the application process, I wished I would have applied to UCLA.

Yea, it will be a completely paid for visit. I ended up speaking to the University of Texas's Medical Physics secretary yesterday. She was telling me that they have (believe it or not) accepted students on April 15th. So, you never know they may still accept you. In speaking to her I found out a little more about the interviewing process and thought it may be similar to UCLA. She told me I would be meeting with 5 people total. Of that 5, 4 are professors and 1 is a current graduate student.

Also, I got an email today (1/25/13) say I was accepted into the University of Wisconsin's Medical Physics PhD program.

Quesakilla, what schools did you apply to?

I also got invited to Candidate's Day, still waiting to hear from others. But there have been very few posts on http://www.thegradcafe.com so I'm hoping that it's just early in the process.

I also got into University of Wisconsin! Congrats Julia. Are you going to the open house on Feb 22-23? It's the same weekend as UCLA's Candidates' Weekend so I can't go, but I'm not sure if we have to pay for travel and hotel?

Thanks for the info about UT Houston. Do you know if they fly people there separately for their interviews, or does everyone come during the same weekend?

ahtnamas, from what I could find on past threads, it looks like most schools get back to you around mid-Feb.

I was also rejected to Wisconsin. Sorry to hear that.

How did your interview go? I made a medical physics interview topic if you don't mind sharing your experience to help others out with that!

I will have my interview this next week. I will let you know! :)

Also, I got rejected (2/17/13) from LSU today.
"Dear applicant,
the faculty of the Medical Physics and Health Physics graduate program at Louisiana State University has completed our review of your application.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to invite you for an interview or provide an offer of admission for the Fall 2013 semester. Our faculty were pleased with the many interesting applications that we received for both the MS and PhD tracks in medical physics. It is truly unfortunate that we can only accommodate 6 new students combined per year for both tracks.
I apologize that the number of applicants prevents me from responding individually to each applicant. Thank you for your interest in the LSU Medical Physics and Health Physics graduate program. On behalf of our faculty, best wishes to you in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Kip Matthews"

How are everyone's interviews coming along? I'm still waiting to here back from UCLA and UT Houston after their interviews. I also have been accepted into Stony Brook.

Anyone else have any updates to gauge acceptances/rejections from?

So far I haven't gotten any information that is not already on grad cafe. Interviews have gone really well for me. It seems like most med physics applicants won't post anything because they are scared of the competition. I'm pretty sure this late in the year you have nothing to worry about... Once we have our final decisions made it would be nice to post our profiles to help future students. I know I could not find much from previous years and it would have helped me out a ton.
