Prospects for Astrophysicists

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Prospects for Astrophysicists

Postby fznfire » Thu Apr 26, 2012 5:56 pm

Hi everyone,

I am currenly considering a career in astrophysics. But I am not sure what I will be doing with a degree in astrophysics. What are the career options after studying astrophysics except being a professor?

Astrophysicists develop the kind of data analysis techniques in high demand in a wide variety of industries, including but not limited to internet companies (Facebook, Google, etc), financial companies, and consulting firms. The high dimensionality of the problems in astrophysics mirror these fields really well, so the fit is actually pretty tight.
