Tricky part in application

So, almost every application I am filling out right now has a tricky part that asks you to provide them information about what other schools have you applied. I am just curious, will this part have any effect on their decision to accept applicants?

It shouldn't. As far as I understand, that part of the application is generally for the school to be able to gather statistics regarding their applicant pool. This data can be used when figuring out things like grad student salaries (e.g. if most people who apply to school x also apply to school y and school y offers more funding, school x may want to increase their funding package to appear more competitive).
