at what hour do you receive your acceptance?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

at what hour do you receive your acceptance?

Postby betelgeuse1 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 2:21 pm

Hello my friends,
I hope your applications went perfect. If not, there's still time! I have one question to you: at what hour of the day do you usually receive acceptance/rejection e-mails? (EST time) I just want to know in order not to stay sticked to my laptop all the day... it interferes sometime with my work... :D
Thanks
Hope you'll get acceptances from the places you like most!
Good luck

I wouldn't base it necessarily on EST. You need to look at what time zone they're in. You probably won't get many emails after 5 PM for whatever timezone the school is in. For PST schools, 5pm is 8pm in EST.

I did get an email at around 6 or 7 PM CST (which is 7 or 8 EST). That was from Brandeis which is in EST. Otherwise, the emails I've gotten are generally late morning to late afternoon (next latest email I got was around an hour to closing time on Friday, don't remember what timzone it was).

Thanks,
well, I'm in eastern Europe GMT+2 so EST was a choice of time that I thought most of you consider more comfortable. I have EST on my laptop here too. So, between midday and afternoon? well... hope I'll get something this night then...

Mine have been all over the place (all times in the school's time zone): 11pm, 5pm, 10am, 12pm... If I could only choose one, I'd guess late morning for EST schools...but every school works at their own pace.

I got my first one and my last one both around 3 or 4pm (I'm guessing that they had the meeting earlier in the day). I got my one from Rochester at 10am, so it seems they met the day before toward the end of the day.
