According to the profiles thread, Penn State has started calling people 1/24.

Where's my phone call Penn State? You are such a tease.

Hey, that was me; I'm "people." :D I have no idea if they do them all at once, so good luck, unrelated!

I haven't heard from Wisconsin, though. Let's call it even.

ah, was called yesterday by penn state! the conversation was awkward, i was trying to explain i understand how important it was that i reply to them promptly once i made a decision, and i think the professor on the phone took that as meaning 'i'm probably going somewhere else' (which isn't untrue i guess).

Apparently UCSC astro has started inviting people to do Skype interviews (my friend got one). I'm also astrophysics, but I applied to the physics department, so I have to wait a bit longer

Wait, do most astro programs have interviews first before accepting?

Holy *** you guys can't do this to me! First of all, UCSC is one of my top choices, so now I'm going to be incredibly neurotic that I haven't received an interview invitation (yet?). Additionally, I JUST DYED MY HAIR PINK. Something I'm sure they'll notice over an interview. Eeek, time to go out and buy a wig!

Look up a pink colored galaxy or nebula or something and then in the interview explain to them you were inspired by that.

"The indescribable beauty of Centaurus A inspired me to integrate the look and feel of a galaxy into my own appearance. As a result, I have dyed my hair pink. Thank you."

That would get me in the door for sure!

The Maxwell's Equations tattoos came a couple summers ago, but they're on my shoulders so I can hide them if I want to. Who knows what kind of crochety old artifacts are still sitting on admissions boards at some of these universities.

I've been thinking about getting a physics tatoo for a long time. I just can't decide what I want or where. I've limited it to "somewhere on my back." Maxwell's equations is a pretty excellent choice :-P (although I'm not going to go with that one).

Back to the original purpose of this thread:

I just got an acceptance email from Arizona State!

It's definitely not my #1 choice but still a good program, and an acceptance letter will definitely make the next 2 months of waiting more bearable.

:D :D :D

Very nice. I applied there last year (for physics). They never got back to me with a decision however. I was on the waiting list until May, at which point I stopped asking.

And I'm an astrophysics kid... I just applied to physics departments where possible . There's definitely department ambiguity for astrophysics (as opposed to astronomy proper)

Just got an email from Case Western Reserve... I'm IN!!!

After all the horribleness I went through last year, I'm so shocked to have 2 acceptances already! Time to get drunk.

Woot! Congrats! I got drunk the night I got my first acceptance. A forced year off wasn't fun for me (sounds like it wasn't fun for you either :-P). Maybe I should get drunk again tonight!

If the waiting game is getting boring, you may want to pass some time browsing the classic threads from 2008... we were just as nervous, frustrated and panicky as you, but we spilled it all over the forum, lol.

Accepted to University of Michigan today! (2/1)

At least, I got an email asking for me to schedule a visit and that "by now" I should have received the acceptance email.

I've been a bit skittish about posting my profile in the relevant thread, but I suppose I probably should now. Still waiting on 7 other schools!

Edit: Actually, I was supposed to be accepted on 1/26, but the email was sent to the wrong address. Might as well be accurate.

I was wondering about the whole skype interview from UCSC rumor. Nobody has received an interview invitation firsthand on either here or thegradcafe.com, so I'm curious if this is even true. Does anybody know somebody personally who was asked for an interview from UCSC?

Ugh, that's depressing. Further update: Looks like I got into Wisconsin. It says on my status page that I have been "recommended by the Department for acceptance" pending "approval by the Graduate School."

UPDATE: Officially accepted to Wisconsin-Madison.

Apparently according to thegradcafe, someone got a rejection call from harvard astrophysics. It seems kind've weird to call someone and tell them they're rejected though.

Damn, what a shame. Denial can be a fairly effective coping mechanism.
