department codes for the GRE score reports

When you are sending your score reports you have to indicate the department code you are sending it to. Some schools indicate on their website what the department code you should indicate is - 0808 or 0899. However, there are some that don't mention the codes. For them I assumed that 0808 applies. Do you think those department codes matter at all? Will the departments receive the score report even if it is sent for 0899 - Physics and Astronomy - Other, when it has to be sent to 0808 - Physics and Astronomy - Physics, provided that there is only one Physics department?

Many (most?) universities don't require a code, so it won't matter for those. The main university will send the score report to the correct place (probably the graduate admissions committee which then sends it to the departmental admissions committee)

just bear in mind that every code that you enter, all the scores will first go to the Grad school and they will match them with the appropriate application form. and I believe 0808 is fine for all physics departments.
