I was bored so I tried out a few models to try to figure out the domestic PGRE score for schools using gradschoolshopper data based on different assumptions

Assumptions- Assume 2/3 apps International with score:
Harvard====Assuming Int Score of : 960.0--Domestic score : 756.0
Berkeley====Assuming Int Score of : 960.0--Domestic score : 780.0
Stanford====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 549.0
UIUC====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 636.0
Chicago====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 627.0
BU====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 600.0

Assumptions- Assume 1/2 apps International with score:
Harvard====Assuming Int Score of : 960.0--Domestic score : 824.0
Berkeley====Assuming Int Score of : 960.0--Domestic score : 840.0
Stanford====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 676.0
UIUC====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 734.0
Chicago====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 728.0
BU====Assuming Int Score of : 930.0--Domestic score : 710.0

Assumptions Assume 2/3 apps International and domestic score 120 less than international.
Harvard====Domestic score : 812.0
Berkeley====Domestic score : 820.0
Stanford====Domestic score : 723.0
UIUC====Domestic score : 752.0
Chicago====Domestic score : 749.0
BU====Domestic score : 740.0

Assumption model- Assume 1/2 apps International and domestic score 120 less than international.
Harvard====Domestic score : 832.0
Berkeley====Domestic score : 840.0
Stanford====Domestic score : 743.0
UIUC====Domestic score : 772.0
Chicago====Domestic score : 769.0
BU====Domestic score : 760.0

A little food for thought

Is it realistic to consider that international account for at least 50%? That seems a lot. Also isn't the average they post, that of the accepted students? In that case surely less than half are international.

You should be able to look at the percentage of entering classes by international and domestic. But all in all, I'm not exactly convinced that you can do really beneficial statistics on one number.

My university is a decent institution (top 20, depending who you ask), and the admissions committee here gets ~200 applications a year, of which something like 30-40 will be domestic. They accept about 30 applicants, of which about half will be domestic. Never heard this was particularly exceptional.

I think 50% international is pretty reasonable and 3/4 is possible, the number might be larger for Berkeley. I still dont believe the analysis is rigorous given the amount of information easily obtained but they could be used as a very rough guide or at least a reason to be optimistic given your PGRE score.

UColorado (Boulder) provides a breakdown in PGRE scores btw Intl/Domestic students. The average (if I remember correctly) was ~730 for Domestic students and ~900 for Intl. students.

@cato88, thank you for your analysis! I've thought about doing something similar before, but I'm always too laz... I mean too "busy"! :)

Too bad you didn't add MIT to the tally!
