Harvard DEAS?

Has anyone heard from Harvard DEAS? Applied Math, perhaps?

Also, does anyone know CalTech's rejection/acceptance schedule? Was 3/2 (according to thegradcafe.com) the final round of rejections or is there anyone out there who hasn't heard from CalTech yet?

Yosofun:

I heard back from DEAS (Applied Physics) exactly two weeks ago today. The email that I received was from DEAS rather than applied physics, and there was no mention of any specific departments at all. There was only one other recipient designated for that email. I dunno if all departments sent out emails on the same day. If no one has posted an applied math acceptance on GradSchoolCafe, then that means they probably haven't notified anyone yet. Best of luck to you!

thegradcafe has one DEAS EE acceptance from about 2 weeks ago, thus far...

jupiter: just curious what did you mean that there was only one other recipient designated for that email --- did they not bcc the list?!
& best of luck to you too!

Yosofun:

It was not an anonymous email. There was a student from Stanford who received the same email as I did.

Yosofun,

I believe the whole DEAS sent out their first round of acceptances by email on Feb 20. The open house is Mar. 19, so... you know what that means. Well I don't want to discourage you, I'm in the same boat here, for applied physics (haven't heard from them), but maybe you are on the waiting list. They have supposedly had their last admission committee last Friday and should have made their final decisions on rejections/waitlist, and I guess they will send those out soon.... Maybe they have added new acceptances to their list too.

Good luck on all your applications anyway!

As for Caltech, i think all the depts work differently, so which one are you talking about? Can't help you on applied math, but I called applied physics yesterday and they said they haven't sent out anything (email/mail) yet. (But yes I know someone got a call from them regarding that.)

i applied to physics @ caltech. (not applied physics. just straight physics.)

the bunch of caltech physics rejections seemed to have been sent out 3/2 according to thegradcafe. i'm not sure what this means... whether it was because ETS sent my scores in late and thus they didn't even consider me or whether my app got lost. (i'm going to postpone calling them, for the time being.)

but i decided to go for applied math @ harvard deas because i missed the 12/15 deadline for physics. (math is something i have to master both ways, and moreover deas offers interdept courses.)

jupiter --- since only one other person was emailed, does that mean that they only made 2 acceptances in their first round?

waintingting --- just curious, how did you come by to know about their acceptance/rejection schedules? and how would one know whether one's on the waiting list or not?
and good luck to you too!

hello,

i know the first round went out that time because i corresponded with a prof over email and he told me so. this was consistent with the fact that a few DEAS acceptances went up on gradcafe at the same time, all through email (and i also personally know someone who got a DEAS acceptance that time, with no program specified). and someone from another board said he got an applied physics email that time.

as for the friday decision-making time, i got that from this:

http://www.urch.com/forums/admissions-r ... ssion.html

i guess i should have included some uncertainty there, since it's provided by some anonymous person on a message board... but i don't see any reason to not trust what that person says. and as i said in that board, i called GSAS at harvard and they told me the DEAS will try to notify everyone by Mar 15.

and i have no idea how to find about waiting list... i wish i knew for myself too :(

ahh 3/15... the ides of march. the anniversay or caesar's assassination. how fitting.

Notifications will be mailed Friday

I called DEAS today and they told me all acceptance notifications would be mailed out by GSAS and that no e-mails would be sent. I called GSAS and they told me they plan to mail them out this friday. I don't know why they sent out some acceptances by e-mail already but even their website states that no notifications would be made by phone, fax or e-mail.

Harvard?

Is this for Harvard physics (GSAS) or applied physics (DEAS)? I know that a lot of people received acceptances to Harvard physics on Saturday, February 18. I'm guessing that the rest of us will receive rejections, especially considering that the department open house is next week. :(

Is anyone besides me still waiting for a response from MIT physics as well?

The decisions for Applied Physics and all the DEAS departments are mailed out by GSAS.

I received formal notification (paper letter) from Harvard DEAS yesterday. It was postmarked on March 10th.

I recieved the rejection letter in the mail today. What a disappointment. My scores are significantly above their average.

HCarias, don't worry. 900's get rejected from Princeton... so if Harvard follows the same trend, then... screw 'em ivies!

meanwhile i'm still semi-hyperventiliating waiting for deas applied math from harvard. i'm already expecting a "haha no you're not cut out for this," but... dammit why do i still have hope?

still waiting for caltech physics, too.
