Outta touch for 3 Years-Where to start?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Outta touch for 3 Years-Where to start?

Post by mithunpaul » Sat Jun 21, 2008 9:57 am

Hi all, I passed out 3 years before from my UG and had to be in the Software Industry because of some family financial constraints. Now that they are kinda settled am planning to apply for my graduate studies. I am completely out of touch since the last 3 years because I have been working in the Software Industry.Should mention my UG grades are also bad and hence taking the Subject GRE and doing well is the only option am left with. My question is simple, where do i start from?I know you'd say old text books, but frankly that is a bit unrealistic. Is there some coaching guide, which I can take as my primary thread, through the course of studying which I can keep going back and referring my text books?

The ETS website has a list of the topics that are covered. I'd say, use this and study those topics. Work as many problems as you can from a comprehensive lower division text like Halliday and Resnick. When you think you are refreshed on your undergraduate physics, take a practice test to see how you are doing. Look at the answers to the questions you got wrong on GREphysics.net.
