Great Publications!.....In areas besides physics!

My computer lab got a new cluster that has some wicked powers that they, of course, aren't using. My main interest is in the analysis of algorythms, and especially Quantum Information.

So I picked up a bunch of books an Ramsey theory because it looks interesting and I have nothing to do on spring break. It suggests that there are many problems that are open and that and are appropriate for an undergraduate to tackle.

So maybe I'll spend some time attacking these things. It sounds fun, and interesting. But is it useful for getting into grad. school? I'd be designing algorythms to solve difficult open problems, but is this close enough for physics work?

Algorhythms?

Is that some kind of commentary on the lack of creativity in contemporary pop music?

I thought it referred to the former vice-President's dancing ability.

I dunno. In less serious contexts, I spell alrorithm, "algorythm." It's a relatively new word (I think less than 50 years old) so I don't feel too badly about it.

But I was hoping for an answer to my question.

your avatar is so freaking hilarious. Where did u get that from? Does it ever stop walking/dancing/jumping or what ever that old man is doing?

Of course it will help. If you demonstrate an ability to tackle a new problem independently and solve it and get a publication out of it, you are demonstrating that you have the skills required to do original research successfully. That is important.

Thanks Grae ^^.

RG, it's from a video game called Chrono Trigger. I think that he's just walking. Most of the time, I'm not a big fan of animated gifs but I like this one because it's pretty easy to imagine some guy who is just walking for a long time, at least longer than you care to watch him for.
