Ohio State Open House

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Ohio State Open House

Postby doom » Wed Mar 05, 2008 9:44 pm

Check-in post for the Ohio State open house this Thursday and Friday. Who's going? What field do you want to study? What are your thoughts about the school going in? Thoughts during/afterward? Post 'em here.

I'm going. Whoooo!

Prolly high energy physics.

Right now, I'm feeling like it's probably not my top pick. We'll see if that changes.

I'm actually going to be in Akron anyway, so I might drive down if I have time.

I'm heading up to Ohio State in the morning. I'm driving, since my school isn't too far away.

I'm in high energy theory. buddyo, are you theory or experiment?

This will be my first visit, so I've made up a list of questions to ask the professors when we meet with them on Friday.

Weather Thursday should be decent, with a high of 49, but those from outside the Midwest will see how quickly the weather changes here, because there's a winter storm on the way for Friday.

I go to school close enough to drive, so I braved the weather on Friday night in order to beat the blizzard on Saturday. I am enjoying the snow, though.

so its another place with nice cold chilly weather ... like where im at now in northeast england

ok about their dept, what did you guys think of the structure of their phd program? they mentioned in their very nice looking prospectus that you can tailor your program according to your personal goals and undergrad prep. im most concerned about the length of program (and in relation to start date of phd research) especially in particle/nuclear theory (which i applied for and just got offered a place)

also did anyone meet their lattice QCD group ? if so how active are they in the field compared to other schools ?
