How important are grad classes?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

How important are grad classes?

Post by yougivemeahadron » Tue Oct 31, 2017 2:05 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking at applying to top 20 grad programs, but when looking at all of the applicant profiles, I noticed a weak spot in my application. My school doesn't have a graduate school in physics, and I was not allowed to register for any graduate math classes because I am an undergraduate. Will this hurt my chances? Should I mention in my application that my school doesn't offer any graduate level physics classes, or should I not even bring it up?

I am sorry if this is not on topic -- I am fairly new here.

Thanks

If you're doing theory, you better have some but it's okay to not have any. If you're doing experimental then you really don't need those. High GPA matters so much more than grad classes.
