No rejections yet?

I have many rejections. Every time I went to the bar this term.

Surely not every time?

Well, it's been a small sample. I've been pretty busy with stuff.

Our high school guidance counselors would say that we we've already been rejected from everywhere we didn't apply to.

My high school guidance counselor would've told me to forget about college and learn a trade. Did, in fact.

I'd feel really shitty if I got rejected somewhere I didn't apply to. Can you imagine getting that letter?

"Dear twistor,

It is our understanding that you have not applied to our school. We are writing to inform you not to bother. In the case that you would have applied you would have been rejected and we would have wasted valuable time shredding your application. Furthermore, several of our professors would have had to be restrained due to violent fits of laughter. We commend you for not putting us through this horrible ordeal by graciously not submitting your application. We look forward to you not applying again next year.

Sincerely,

The faculty and staff of MIT"

That's just depressing.

heh, that's funny twistor.

I wonder, can I claim the title of being the first person to get officially rejected? Or at least admit to it? Rejected from University of Michigan by email, 2-12-2008....

Surely I can get an award for that?

Up till now we're almost sure any news would be good news.....
Now those of us who haven't heard from anywhere can despair.

Better luck with your other applications marten.

May Garden save us all...

(I've become a bit religious the past days. I wonder if I should start sacrifices in the name of the Wise One. )

I wonder if I should start sacrifices in the name of the Wise One.
Yes, yes a hundred times!!!!

Garden prefers the sacrifice of the 3rd born.

It's nice to see someone other than the first born be sacrificed for a change. As a first-borner, I encourage this.

as a second-borner, I also encourage this

Thanks schandre. It was a bit disappointing to have my first decision be a rejection, and to get it so soon. Ironic that I had a dream 2 nights before about getting an acceptance email from UMBC, but turned out to be a rejection from UMich.

But UMich was my reach-reach school, so it really isn't a huge surprise. Considering I don't have a physics degree, I'm preparing myself to not get accepted anywhere and I have backup plans. However, I spent a lot of effort preparing for the GRE, not to mention time and money applying, so it'd be really nice to not face that scenario.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for their first decision.

I'm just glad the first born aren't being picked on for a change. Nothing personal, RG. :)

Marten,

I wouldn't worry too much about that first rejection.
The same thing happened to me, my first letter was a rejection from UW Seattle, and really early (01/23!!) which was very depressing.
But soon thereafter I got accepted to Penn State and CU Boulder which definitely made me feel much better.
By the way, these are all in Astro.
I had a dream 2 nights before about getting an acceptance email from UMBC
Interestingly, I had a dream a couple of weeks earlier that I got accepted to Boulder, so I'll be curious to know how UMBC turns out for ya...

I just got my first rejection from UC Berkeley Astro. 145 applicants for 9 slots. :(

Yale sucks. Everyone who goes there, have fun living in New Haven, which is a boil on the ass of the earth.

Haha, in my dream I was looking at my yahoo inbox (egh, switching to gmail....) and I couldn't quite read what the email said, my monitor was fuzzy, and I was trying to squint, but there was so much spam everywhere, it was hard to tell for sure if I was accepted or not.

Actually I also had a dream that I got into Chicago Astrophysics.... if that works out as well I'm declaring myself Garden's official prophet :P

where are you guys checking in the Yale application to see the decision? When I log in I don't really see anything. Did you have a message in your message center?

Posted: Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:38 pm
by hpharty
grae, the decision was on the bottom of the page. There was something there about 'your decision is not available'. It was a link right below all of the application status information.

Posted: Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:55 pm
by vroomfondel
i don't see anything about 'decisions'...did you get an email or something telling you about a status change?

if I look at the application home, the closest thing I can find is "check your application status" on the bottom left corner. and that link just says "deadline has passed" and has some paragraph about making sure apps are complete...blahblah..

It says this

# Decision Status: Available beginning 2/13/2008
Your application decision is now available online

with the second line as a link. It's located right above

But how will you ever be successful if you're not tapped for Skull & Bones?

See my previous post. In light of this decision, I decided I won't be running for president, so I don't need Skull n Bones anymore.

But I will still let someone pee on me if the situation is right, i.e. if the person was Heidi Klum or something.

ok, so for me REJECTIONS are also coming in a row and on the same day:

Yale rejected 2/13 , online ( bullshit yale)

MIT rejected 2 /13 ( I knew it, *** ETS and *** my 850 and *** my publication, and *** MIT)

< congrats yale and MIT for not admitting RG. Good I will go to UIUC then>

by cancelled20080417
Twistor I hope you have no grievances now. I did not take anybodys position in MIT and Yale! well for UIUC, I have to take it, or I will have to go back to my country and die of hunger.

RG, I feel for you. If YOU didn't get in to Yale, who the hell did they let in? WTF. Who does Yale think they are, Harvard or something?

Posted: Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:16 pm
by cancelled20080417
For me, I am an international with not so impressive GRE., but what I do not understand is why the hell they rejected you. I mean, Yale is ranked 14th acc US News. Forget it. U will get into Berkley or UIUC, fermiboy. They are big departments. But I do not understand why you did not apply to UCSD. they accepted 140 students last year. you shud have def applied their. Anyways, it is just the begining and GOOD LUCK.

Posted: Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:18 pm

UCSD was one of the last schools I cut. I wish I would have applied there, instead of Yale.

dont worry you will make into UIUC or Berkeley. good luck.

rejected from Berkeley asronomy

Their e-mail was funny; as if they actually care about me or my future. I would have a lot more respect for them if they ended their e-mail by saying they let in 9 of 145 aplicants. The rest of their bull *** is just demeaning.

Also, I must agree with RG, a big *** YOU to ETS.

I can't believe you were rejected anywhere. You have awesome stats. MIT won't know what they're missing.

RG,fermiboy and others. sorry to hear about Yale... you all have amazing records, it's pretty surprising that Yale is being so snotty. I applied to Applied Physics, so I'm guessing they haven't release the first casualties there.

RG, condensed matter theory right? Goldbart is at UIUC, you're so much better off there than Yale. If you come to the April visit day, maybe I will see you there.
