i have done mechanical engineering from India. i gave the general gre and score 327 (167 and 160), but I did very poorly in my graduation( 5.31 pointers with 13 backlogs) I then worked for 2 years in a mechanical engineering firm and now have a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering. i gave the subject test preparing on my own and scored 770( i want to know if its good or not). now i want to pursue my masters. should i go for a masters program in mechanical and then look for phd in physics or another ms program or any other course ? or what course should i go for now ?

I suppose the biggest question is why do you want to study physics as opposed to engineering?
Even though they might deal with some of the same kinds of content, the questions of each field are pretty different, and the scope of physics is way different than the scope of mechanical engineering.
What are your long term goals?
