Natives and internationals get together to celebrate their bounty on the fourth Thursday of November.

phds.org will give you this information for each school.

For example:

http://graduate-school.phds.org/univers ... ysics/1379

this gives the princeton profile. You'll see that their physics grad program is 45% US citizens and 55% foreign students with temporary visas.

the berkeley one is here

http://graduate-school.phds.org/univers ... sics/11303

you'll see that they have 78% US citizens and 22% foreign students.

Anyhow, you get the idea.

Also, if you browse through this forum (or the admissions website of any physics or astronomy department), you should get the idea that foreign and domestic students are evaluated separately. In general, there are way more foreign applicants, so it is more competitive for them.

And you should be talking about domestic white males, not domesticated males.

domestic: From or in one's own country.

domesticated: Tame or naturalized

I've seen this sort of thing happen a lot on this forum, and it's pretty uncool: someone makes some spelling error, or awkward word choice, and several people pile on to make fun of them.

People come here looking for advice, for many of whom their first language is not English. So, if they speak (actually, type) in an awkward fashion, it's understandable.

Making fun of people for things like that is condescending and against the spirit of this site: sharing of information about grad school admissions.

Furthermore, in your careers as physicists, you will no doubt work with many people who speak less-than-grammar-school-perfect English. If you treat them all with this sort of contempt, yours will be an unsuccessful career.

So, in the interest of those looking for help, of the site, and of yourselves, please stop being condescending grammar/vocabulary police!

Well they're not going to make fun of themselves.
Furthermore, in your careers as physicists, you will no doubt work with many people who speak less-than-grammar-school-perfect English. If you treat them all with this sort of contempt, yours will be an unsuccessful career.
And I hate this kind of condescending, judgemental, self-aggrandizing morality that seems to be ubiquitous on this site.

I'm not the grammar police and you're not the moral police.

Yeah, if people here were capable of overlooking a few silly remarks here and there, this place would be much less boring for everyone. The moral police really detract from the random humor that keeps users like me and twistor coming back and sharing useful information with future grad students. It's unfortunate for someone to have to refrain from saying something 500 people would laugh at knowing that 2 people are going to bitch at him.

Nobody judges anyone here for English skills alone. RG for instance was probably the coolest user of all time, and his grammar errors made what he said even more hilarious... Everyone (except the moral police) thought he was awesome. Nobody insulted his English.
RG wrote:throw parties- I do not want to throw parties, but throw myself
video games- hahaha, that is the most sucking thing I would ever do!
date a girl- i wish there were some hot chicks around ( remeber beauty and brain, of course)

I cannot dress up every now and them or do cosmetics like you phoenix coz I am a boy. o/w I think that would be a good stress releiver! hahahaha.

I am just working out and build some muscles so that after I get into 'the' school i would find some Prof's daughters (who will be business majors) and sleep with them.hahahahaha
Sprateek, on the other hand, got laughed at because the question he asked was retarded.
sprateek wrote:My BE percentage is 73 and now i am looking for GRE. can anybody tell how much score i need to get admission into Barakley or Stanford or MIT (Top 20 ) universities.......
It's all about what you say, not your English.

It's for tokamak's own benefit that he doesn't confuse "domesticated" for domestic the rest of his career... it'll save a lot of awkwardness. So it's probably best that twistor informed him of his error.

my argument still holds....physics is not done by untamed and unnaturalized people...only naturalized people can understand nature and hence physics....according to you naturalized means domesticated...

We seem to have hit a language barrier.
