LOR from employer

Post by gradfoo » Tue Sep 09, 2014 3:25 pm

I have an MSc in Physics with GPA ~3/4 and rather strong computational skills. I have been working as a software developer for over a year after college. I plan on pursuing PhD in compuational astrophysics.

I have a couple of good LORs. One from my MSc project advisor with whom I co-authored a published work and another from an internship mentor. I do not expect strong recommendations from my teachers as they are not familiar with my research work. But I can get good recommendation from my boss, but without any Physics background.

So my question is will a strong recommendation from work regarding my programming skills + 2 from academia work? Or should I insist on recommendation from academia?
