What are the merits and de-merits of doing study full-time or part-time.? On what basis do you decide to go part-time or full-time.?

Almost no school will fund you to do part-time work.

So, unless you have a good job (that's flexible enough to let you spend a fair bit of time doing classes / research), or you have a giant wad of money in the bank, you are stuck with full-time.
