Particle Physics Research

Post by isentropic » Fri Dec 16, 2016 9:13 am

I've been interested in particle physics research, there is a high possibility to be accepted to a good lab. I was wondering how viable experimental particle physics research is today?
By that I mean,
1) How valuable the skills obtained there can be used in industry (in the case I fail academia route)?
2) How is the field evolving? Will it be still an active research field say after like 20 years? (Basically will it not be a dead end?)
3) How competitive is the field? How hard will it be to become a successful researcher? (Basically how future career will look like?)
4) Any general advice related to this field?

Thanks in advance!
