Explaining Content of Vaguely Worded Courses

I have some courses on my transcript with really vague titles such as "Applied Math", "Mathematical Methods", etc. Is the content of these courses something I should explain in my SoP, or is it something I should leave to my letter writers even if none of them were the teachers of those courses?
