Should I Retake the General?

Post by 2.718281828 » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:45 pm

I am finishing up applications now and aside from my standardized test scores, everything looks really good. I have a 4.0 for my majors (physics and math) and a 3.962 overall (Liberal Arts College). My pGRE is a 770 which isn't good, but there isn't anything I can do about that. My General GRE is also pretty bad (verbal 74% and math 83%). I know that if I take it again (December 7th) it will be a lot better, but that's getting close to deadline time. I could submit all of my applications now, but on the other hand, I could retake these tests and still get them in before the deadlines (~Jan 15). Is it worth retaking or submitting this test or should I go ahead and submit my applications today? I'm just looking for advice; I know that there is no actual answer to this. Thanks for your time.

General GRE is way less important than pGRE. 770 isn't so bad, although if you think that it's bad, maybe you're applying to very selective target schools?

As for the general, schools basically just want to see that you know how to read. Retaking it is not worth the fortune you'd spend in fees.
