From the UCB Physics webpage

"Please provide a valid email address on your application form. You will be notified when your application is complete and being reviewed by the admissions committee. We will begin mailing offers of admission mid-February. Our last offers of admission will be mailed March 15. "

So has anyone been notified that their app is complete yet? I sure haven't.

Update: Poking around the web page, I found this in the graduate FAQ

"We will begin reviewing complete graduate applications after January 7, 2008. We intend to email applicants whether further materials are necessary or that their applications are complete by January 31st. We will make initial offers of admission mid February and continue until final offers of admission are made March 15th."

So that's why we haven't heard anything. My bad.

Speaking of the Berkeley application, did anyone not notice the "Undergraduate Program" form that they wanted applicants to fill out and send in? I noticed it, but all of my colleagues seemed to have missed it, and only filled it out once I told them about it.

I sent mine in. I hope some people forgot, it will help my chances. :P

Why would they have you mail it in, why not just allow you to fill it online.
May be they want to see your handwriting, or if you have a program that can change pdf files! I wonder why

I think this is because the online application is provided by the university, and the undergrad program form is only required by the physics dept. If you remember, the application only asks some common basic thing.

UCSB is worse, they force u to print out 2 copies of personal statement, history, and resume and mail in. Even recommendation is paper only.

Woah woah, what is the "Undergraduate Program" form? Is it a part of the online application? I think I missed it, can you tell me where I can find the form? Thanks. Also, is there such "hidden" forms in other schools you know?

You can get the berkeley form here,

http://physics.berkeley.edu/academics/grad/UGProg.pdf

you should also call them to make sure they know what happened.

Thank you for the info. Also, where there similar paper forms for other schools? I would appreciate your help.

gradQ, do you expect us to tell you every school in the nation that has a physics department requiring additional mail-in materials? Go to the department webpages of the schools you are applying to. Click their links for admissions information and procedures, read what they have to say. That is how we found the Berkeley undergraduate form--it is stated plain as day in their admissions section.

Undergrad Prog. Form

Does anyone have any idea why they want you to list courses from only the past 2 years?

I just noticed this now and am sending it in, should I even bother? Am I screwed?

My guess is they're trying to make sure you were taking advanced courses.

If you have a 4.0 GPA but you've been taking courses like "Introduction to Studying" or "P.E." or "Advanced Fun" then they know you don't compare to the people who had a 4.0 and were taking "Advanced Developments in Synchrotron Radiation" or "Charged Particle Accelerator Instrumentation III"

One thing we've been over looking:
We will begin mailing offers of admission mid-February.
So we're not fucked yet for admissions there. It's still quite likely and possible we'll get in... kind of obnoxious how it there's maybe 15% of admissions that happen this earlier so we just stress more.

fermiboy, when did you receive that? I still haven't gotten anything saying my application is complete.

I got it sometime this afternoon (Tuesday).

I just got that letter this afternoon. Granted, I realized like 3 weeks late that I hadn't turned in the extra form for Berkeley (thanks to everyone on this thread), and had just sent it in a little while back ...

Ditto, calphys.
I had no idea the form existed until I saw this thread. I also just received the email from UCB.

I just received an email from UCB and I had my form in by the application deadline, so apparently that is not the reason some of our apps are being marked "complete" earlier than others.

Berkeley is reading my app now, too.

i actually never submitted that extra form. and i got an application complete email about 4 days ago.

so go figure .

(actually i remember filling an online version of it somewhere, but not sure if it was for berkeley or some other school  )

I just got the recently-discussed "application is complete" email from UC Berkeley. Strangely, it originated from a yahoo.com email address. Is someone playing a trick on me (unlikely, I know, but stress leads to paranoia) or can others confirm this?

Yes, I can confirm that stress leads to paranoia... (read my old posts for proof)

My email was from <ucb_physics@yahoo.com>. I didn't notice before you said something. That is strange, you think they would use their .edu domain.

Not to freak anyone out, but mine was from someone at berkeley.edu. I've actually received a few other emails about my application (I had filled out the name fields backwards) and those were all from berkeley.edu as well.

I got the email from <ucb_physics@yahoo.com> too...

Yeah, I got an email about my first name and last name are switched on my application from the berkeley.edu assistance. I emailed her back, and then she replied within 30mins.

I think the person who wants to inform you that your application is completed just don't want to get any email to ask about the status.

lol. my first and last name were in reversed order too...
