Reapplying after first getting rejected

Post by PathIntegrals92 » Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:44 pm

I have looked through to find schools about reapplying, but I mainly encounter those for students who want to transfer and who have dropped out etc.

If I am reapplying to a school I have been rejected from, should I mention that in my statement of purpose?

I think this specific school does have my old records because when I asked a question about official gre score report deadline, I got a reply saying they already have my scores. So , I guess they somehow looked me up or something?

I told them I re-took my exams. SO I am sending new scores, new SOP etc.

the biggest difference is that I am not longer applying for hep-th. I don't even mention hep-th ( or hep in general) in my application... except my research experiences are in hep-th.

Has anyone reapplied to a school after getting rejected? Are the chances going to be low still?

I don't think you need to mention it in your SOP but in the application forms, they usually asked if you have applied to their school in the past.

Unless something major changed (not applying to hep-th would not really count as a major change, in my opinion), it's unlikely that you will get a different result this time around.

Well that honestly sucks :( ... I don't expect to get admitted here, but I hope I do this time. My credentials fall within their acceptance range and I have noticed people with gpa hovering above/below 3.0 get accepted.

If I don't have a shot here, then I am feeling pretty intimidated by the application process. :/

Not putting hep-th in your letter is a huge difference. New GRE scores could be a huge difference. Yearly fluctuations in the quality and quantity of applicants can make a huge difference. If you fall in the acceptance range you have just as good a shot as anyone else.
