The only reason for you to aim so low is that you have very little research experience.

Even so, axe Tulane (out of what you mentioned, they only have nuclear experimental), but you might want to look at Michigan State and Notre Dame.

Pay attention as to what you want out of nuclear/HEP. If you want nuclear experiment you're not going to apply to the same schools as if you were interested in HEP-EX, or even HEP-TH.

I feel like you could probably aim a little higher too...

Sorry, could you explain what is:

axe Tulane?

Michigan S. and N.D you mentioned are a little cold, I don't like it.

You mean I should consider nuclear & hep separately for each school? Definitely.

I meant for the schools you are applying to, you can reach a little higher. You have an excellent pgre score! GPA is good too.

Just write a very good SOP and get great LORs

Have you looked into Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UT Austin?

Or likewise, Yale (especially if you're into HEP-EX)?

In fact, Stony Brook, Yale, Notre Dame and MSU are all in the same kind of cold.

Having been to Yale and Stony Brook during the middle of winter, I agree with Catria that they have the same kind of cold. If you are applying to Stony Brook, why not look into Yale?

Same goes with UC Berkeley and Stanford since you have a good chunk of California schools on there...

And may be it is worthwhile to retake GRE general to improve your Quant. section. However, time is close to deadline.
