Why are grad schools so reluctant to post acceptance rates?

They seem reluctant to post anything, but in particular, they even seem reluctant to reply to emails inquiring about acceptance rates. Why is that the case?

Hm, are the rates here inclusive of both master's and PhD programs? A lot of the physics programs seem to have higher acceptance rates than the astronomy programs in general, but I suspect that this might be because they might be including the acceptance rates of both the Master's and PhD students.

Most schools do not have separate programs. However, if the school does offer a terminal masters program, the stats are listed separately. Astro rates might be lower because these are often smaller departments with less funding... just a guess.
