Cornell or Northwestern Applied Physics

Post by RazorX » Mon Feb 19, 2018 3:48 pm

I got accepted to the Applied physics program at Cornell and Northwestern. My interests primarily lie in CME. I am confused as to which school will be a good fit for me. If anyone can give insights regarding the two programs or the schools in general that would be helpful. Also what do you think are the pros and cons of living in a college town as compared to that in a city. Any advise is welcome.

To figure out about NMSU, I emailed a 6th year grad student at my desired research group who had just graduated; it was really helpful. Maybe look through http://www.aep.cornell.edu/aep/people/graduate.cfm and http://www.appliedphysics.northwestern. ... hd-alumni/ or http://www.appliedphysics.northwestern. ... -students/ and try contacting someone who, ideally, worked/works under your desired supervisor.

I sent an email saying:
Dear Dr. X,
I am an undergrad applying to NMSU. I was wondering if you had any notes on the program; how you enjoyed the research/coursework, how it prepared you for your future, and if you would recommend it to others. I am interested in Dr. X's research, so if you have any specific notes about working with him I would be very grateful.
Best,

He gave me some really great advice!
