How come 2009 scoring is more generous??
In Nov 2009 700 is 54%, while for the other tests with 700 you can get higher %.

The ETS doesn't decide your percentile, they decide your scaled score. If your raw score beat 54% of the people you get a 700 this year while in past years a raw score that beat 54% of the people would only get you 650-680.

Maybe I should've reversed the x and y axes on that graph.

This might sound cynical and/or far-fetched but I think the scoring becoming easier over time might be an intentional business decision by the ETS so that your old scores will "degrade" and you'll be influenced to retake the test if you need it again in a few years. I can't think of any other reason why the percentiles versus scaled scores wouldn't be kept locked. Apparently the math test got so easy that they had to completely revamp it in 2001 and now it's called "mathematics (rescaled)".

Just got my raw score in the mail. A raw score of 72 corresponds to a scaled score of 830 (77 percentile.)

To add to my above comment, I got the same scaled score (830) on the October test, but that time my raw score was only 64, so it looks like the Nov. test was significantly easier.

Does anyone know if a score can be investigated?
My report card says that I omitted 23 when I specifically remember counting less than twenty omits on the test day.

You can ask for the test to be regraded by hand (for a fee of course). They have instructions on the website.

Did the April test seem significantly harder than the November one?

Excellent attitude!! :) prepare well for the next year and if you can get some research experience in the meantime. if you are interested in astrophysics/cosmology. there will be a summer school in HRI, allahabad, so you can apply there.

I wish you all the best!!!

by the way, incase you prepare well before april 2010, you can try for Nepal test center.. as I heard they don't require VISA.

People usually go to Nepal or SL. Both dont need any Viasas for Indians.

Verma, you might have added General GRE, you call ets and ask them to include your Subject Gre also in the same login.

This could be due to the fact that you used a different name (or shortened version of your name) for the PGRE. You will need to register for a new account and enter your PGRE registration number to get your scores.

If the above scenario is true, when sending score reports to the school, they will not send both general and subject together as ETS thinks you are two separate persons. You will need to call them and ask them to send both scores for you.

Why do some people require other people to commend their profiles? How reassuring can that be? Is there any student who can imitate the way that an admission(s) committee thinks or acts? I think No. I tend to believe that some (NOT all) of you seek some kind of flattering (you feel perfect hearing that your profile is promising/exquisite and that stuff ...). Notwithstanding, all of you candidates play with the probabilities. The only thing to keep in mind is this: you (or we) are too many for only few positions! Chance factor will tell where you are going to find themselves next year, not a raring, contemptuous or dispiriting comment of your profile. Ultimately, start thinking in a more "projected way"; now many of you implore to get a position in some top US school, but this CANNOT ensure your future prospects as physicists. Your future scientific work may be poorer as compared to that of a physicist from a lower-rank school (US or not) ... .

People who are to shine in this century's physics will actually shine, all other of us will end up being something like a "white noise" ... . Therefore, don't worry so much about a "temporary position" ... .

Of course, a famous college doesn't guarantee any success in future physics carree but it gives directions where students should go in their scientific research if they really want to achieve anything really great
